I found this awesome glyph for transcend, plus a glyph font, Quarz 974 to use today!
I think it's important to let go and trust the journey life gives you. Travel fearlessly into the unknown! A day late because I was spending the weekend at the Missouri Art Education conference. I believe "impact" is a word that describes all teachers. Impossible. Just a little quote from my friend Walt. As an art teacher, I find this to be true often! 😊 Enchantment: I was inspired by the lantern scene from Tangled; one of the most beautiful, and one of my favorite movie scenes. Love, love this part! Day 6: Whisper. I was trying to create something with a bit of mystery, a bit of an airy feel. This awesome typeface is call Port. Day 5: Adventure! There were so many things I could've done with this word. Our UP-themed wedding definitely came to mind, but the I found this quote from Peter Pan and this amazing tattoo design. Day 4: possibilities. I was inspired by Cinderella I saw tonight and the 1997 tv version with Brandy and Whitney Houston 😍 it's late so not my best work, but I had to get something on paper. I forgot to post yesterday, whoops, but the word was Machine. I used a font called Bad Robot from dafont.com to mimic from. If you feel like your in a creative funk with your fonts, I suggest looking for inspiration there. Let the challenge begin! Our first word is FOCUS. Be sure to share your fonts using #justmytype and join our Facebook group Just My Type. Happy creating!
I just finished participating in the 30 Days of Lists Challenge for March. It was my first creative challenge, and boy was it a challenge. As an art teacher I am surrounded by creativity and artmaking every day, but rarely do I encourage myself to be the artist. The 30 Lists challeng allowed me to do this. I was able to put my own words and crafty visuals down on paper every day. At times it was difficult to fulfill the challenge, as we all have busy lives and busier days, but I was proud of myself that I didn't skip one day. I made it a priority for myself to list. It was fulfilling, so much so that my colleague and I developed our own challenge for the month of April: the Just My Type challenge focusing on hand-drawn typography. I'm looking forward to the continual personal challenge of growing as an artist!
Inspired by the 30 Days of Lists challenge I've participated in this month, (post of my lists coming soon!) I've decided to create my own. Something I want practice with is hand-drawn typography. Do you ever feel like you use the same handwriting over and over? Or see the cool chalkboard DIYs or prints with the cute phrases and wish you could do it? Yeah, me too. How it works: Everyday I will post that day's word on my blog, as well as include the full list below. You then respond anyway you want. The challenge is meant to inspire you to practice new typography styles, but you may be inspired to illustrate the word or use it as a journal prompt. There is no wrong answers and a thousand ways to respond. The point is to be inspired and create everyday! Once you've made your response, post it to Instagram using #justmytype. Also join our Facebook group, Just My Type, and post your photos there! Happy creating! Just My Type list:
I told myself that I was going to blog on-the-go this past weekend, but as a beginner blogger, I didn't have the experience to do that yet. I wanted my first big post to be thoughtful and accurately capture the weekend. So here is a rewind of the festivities. It will come in four parts, one post for each day. TRUE/FALSE FILM FESTThis past weekend was one of Columbia's most awesome and ever-expanding events, the True/False Film Fest! If you aren't familiar with this fest, it is a documentary film festival, which showcases films, art and music from creative folks locally, nationally and globally. What's with the name? Great question. True/False challenges the notion that nonfiction documentary films have to be presented with boring talking heads like we've watched in school. Instead, they can possess the same emotion, character development, artistry, cinematography, and thought-provoking stories as fiction films. Just because something is entertaining, emotional, and artfully crafted, doesn't mean it is false. Likewise, a film that mimics real life in a traditional, documentary-style way of shooting isn't entirely true. Their mission is "to promote art, dialogue and deepen our community's understanding of each other and the world at large." They do this by providing an experience rich with culture, passionate creatives, and new perspectives, which allow you to critically view the world through a new lens. T/F BOOT CAMPThe last four years I've been a teacher liaison for the T/F Boot Camp, an educational outreach program through the fest's organizational team. High school students apply to participate in fest films and activities for free, as well as events like meeting directors and artists for small-group Q&A's. It is such an amazing experience for the students, as well as for me. Before joining the Boot Camp, I had never attended T/F and had never experienced documentary film in this way. I learn and grow along with my students about the art of filmmaking, the trials and tribulations of individuals and societies, and the things that challenge our assumptions and understandings of the human condition.
